TAKE COMMAND OF YOUR RV’S SMART HOME FEATURES WITH SMART TRAILER FROM GMC SIERRA

FOLLOW US

Pulling an RV with a GMC Sierra pickup truck means possessing formidable strength and smart technology for confidence, ease and comfort.

Among these innovative features is Smart Trailer, which allows owners to interact with a properly equipped RV’s smart home technology from the inside of a GMC vehicle or compatible smartphone. Integrated to work with RVs featuring ASA Electronics’ iN•Command® Control System with Global Connect®, Smart Trailer is available for the GMC Sierra 1500, Sierra Heavy Duty, Yukon and Yukon XL.

This convenient technology allows owners to remotely perform commands like prepping a water heater for a hot shower or the air conditioner to cool the RV interior. And it can all be done while you’re still on the road or coming back to the campsite. It even allows owners to remotely monitor key RV systems in real time.

“Smart Trailer is a fantastic example of how GMC continues to elevate the towing and trailering experience, giving owners a convenient way to access their RV’s smart home features,” GMC Trailering Technology Lead Frank Bruneel said. “While the road trip is an American tradition dating back to the beginning of the automotive industry, today’s truck and large SUV customers want technologies that reflect modern needs and expectations. And with GMC’s integration of iN•Command Control Systems with their existing trailering experience, GMC is giving drivers added convenience and connection to their RV.”

A leading designer and manufacturer of unique products to revolutionize the RV experience, ASA Electronics’ iN•Command Control Systems is the next generation of how the smart home can be experienced outdoors.

“Through this relationship we’ve been able to create an invaluable connection between an end user’s truck and RV,” said Jim Hess, ASA Electronics vice president of RV sales. “We put virtually everything they need on their phone, and now it can be on their dash, too.”

CONVENIENCE WITH CONTROL

Enjoying great wide-open spaces doesn’t mean you need to forgo the comforts of home.

That’s how iN•Command transforms the RV experience, bringing smart home technology to the campsite. This unique technology allows you to operate a compatible RV’s heat and air conditioning, generator, slide-outs, awnings, leveling jack system, and lights. Users can also monitor generator functions, and observe fresh, black and gray water tank levels. It even includes the ability to monitor generator fuel tank and battery levels in real time.

These features are accessed from within an RV via a primary touch screen or secondary display panels.

Smart Trailer enhances the convenience of iNCommand with Global Connect® by integrating technologies to control select functions. GMC worked closely with ASA Electronics to ensure customers have a seamless experience whether they are using the GMC Infotainment System or the myGMC Mobile App to interact with an RV’s smart home technology.

Once a customer has gone through the process to set up Smart Trailer, they simply need to use the myGMC app on the GMC infotainment System screen to control a trailer’s iNCommand functions. Now drivers can heat up the water for a hot shower when they arrive at a campsite or start the trailer’s air conditioning to cool off its interior.

USING SMART TRAILER

With just a few easy steps, setting up and using Smart Trailer is easy to do and takes no time at all.

Start by downloading the myGMC app, which is found in the App Store for Apple devices or on Google Play for Android devices. You can also download it by texting “myGMC” to the number 56000.

Then use the myGMC app and the mobile device’s Bluetooth®† to pair and connect to the iNCommand with Global Connect® system. Here’s how:

  • Make sure the smartphone’s Bluetooth function has been turned on
  • Select the SETTINGS menu on the iNCommand touch screen
  • Choose the Bluetooth tab and select SCAN to search for any unpaired devices
  • Select PAIR to connect your smartphone

Once paired, you can access Smart Trailer via the ProGrade Trailering tile inside the myGMC app on your mobile device. It is only available when a smartphone is connected to iNCommand via Bluetooth and in range of the RV (about 30 feet).

Depending upon the configuration of your RV, using Smart Trailer on your mobile device allows users to access all available smart home functions. This may include commands like:

  • Extending or retracting awnings and slide-outs (not available while traveling)
  • Operating exterior and interior lights
  • Turning the water pump and water heater on or off
  • Priming and starting a trailer’s generator
  • Setting climate controls

Users get a subset of these commands when they’re using Smart Trailer via the GMC Infotainment System. Simply connect your smartphone via USB or, if equipped, wireless Android Auto™† or Apple CarPlay®† Then select the myGMC app from the infotainment screen once you have launched either Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

Select either controls or sensors within the Smart Trailer function to operate or monitor the select available functions configured on the RV. This may include the ability to:

  • Operate exterior and interior lights
  • Turn water pump on or off
  • Turn water heater on or off
  • Prime and start your trailer’s generator
  • Set climate controls
  • Real-time status of an RV’s generator fuel level, water levels and battery life

PROGRADE TRAILERING SYSTEM

Smart Trailer is just one of the several intelligent towing and trailering technologies GMC has introduced to offer drivers a world-class experience when they’re ready to hit the road with an RV.

These integrated tools include the available ProGrade Trailering  System with in-vehicle Trailering App, which helps streamline the hitching and towing process.

The in-vehicle Trailering App allows users to create five defined trailer profiles, and it provides maintenance reminders, step-by-step pre-departure checklists, trailer light sequence tests, tire pressure monitoring, and the ability to track trailer mileage and fuel economy.
