ABOUT DRIVER MODE CONTROL FOR GMC HUMMER EV
Driver Mode Control for GMC HUMMER EV allows you to choose your desired mode in response to changing road conditions. You can change modes at any time — even when your vehicle is in motion.
Each Driver Mode features a different vehicle sound profile that reflects the mode and gives you audible feedback as you control the vehicle, modifying rumble, texture and torque gain sounds. For example, Terrain Mode’s sound profile will change based on wheel speed and accelerator pedal pressure.
SELECTING DRIVE MODES
To select a drive mode, locate the MODE rotational dial on the center console. You’ll find it right in front of the shifter.
Then, turn the MODE dial to the drive mode you’d like to select. Each mode has an icon that describes the mode’s use case. When you’re in a mode other than Normal Mode, an indicator light in your Driver Information Center (DIC) will tell you what mode your vehicle is in.
See below for more information on each mode and the icon used to select it.
MORE ABOUT EACH DRIVE MODE
NORMAL MODE
Normal Mode is the default drive mode. It is designed for everyday driving and provides a similar acceleration feel to an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle, with chassis tuning designed for a comfortable ride and a relaxed steering feel. Normal Mode is retained across key cycles. If you turn your vehicle off in Normal Mode, it will remain in Normal Mode when you turn it back on.
TOW/HAUL MODE
To select Tow/Haul
Tow/Haul Mode provides more torque to the rear wheels, improving the drive when pulling a trailer or heavy load. Tow/Haul Mode also optimizes power distribution to the wheels, which is designed to help make sure none of them are overworked.
Tow/Haul Mode also incorporates a power steering calibration with a more direct feel, based on vehicle speed. At lower speeds, steering effort is reduced to aid maneuverability, such as in parking lots or boat ramps. At highway speeds, steering effort is firmer to minimize yaw moments.
Tow/Haul Mode will also make Trailer Sway Control more responsive. Trailer Sway Control works with the StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System to apply braking or reduce torque when it detects trailer sway. This is designed to help you bring the trailer under control during trailer sway events.
Tow/Haul Mode is retained across key cycles, but only for a short time. If you turn your vehicle off in Tow/Haul Mode, it will remain in Tow/Haul Mode if you turn it back on within four hours. After that, your vehicle will start in Normal Mode.
OFF-ROAD MODE
To select Off-Road Mode, turn the MODE dial to the icon that looks like a pair of mountains.
Off-Road Mode enables your vehicle to offer maximum continuous torque output, offers highly controllable acceleration and engages a unique, thrilling motor sound. It is designed to help improve traction, maneuverability and handling on low-traction surfaces like sand or gravel. It is similar to the 4-HI mode found on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.
Off-Road Mode also enhances the functionality of the front and rear axle lockers.
In Off-Road Mode, the front and rear wheels turn opposite (out of phase) to each other. At lower vehicle speeds, Off-Road Mode uses a different wheel steering calibration than Normal Mode that is designed to offer more maneuverability on rough terrain such as gravel.
TERRAIN MODE
To select Terrain Mode, turn the MODE dial to the icon that looks like a vehicle traveling over large bumps.
Terrain Mode is designed to provide maximum maneuverability, torque and traction during low-speed driving conditions. It adjusts your vehicle’s traction control and adds automatic braking to maximize performance in varying road or surface conditions. When you release the accelerator, braking will automatically apply, allowing for one-footed driving.
Terrain Mode features two levels of performance — DRIVE and LOW. You can switch from the default DRIVE mode to LOW by moving the shifter to L.
DRIVE offers less aggressive braking for less intense off-road situations, such as two tracks or traversing small rocks. When you release the accelerator in DRIVE, your vehicle will automatically attempt to brake to a stop and attempt to remain stopped until you press the accelerator. If you are on a sloped surface, your vehicle may not brake to a complete stop.
LOW offers a similar functionality with a more aggressive braking calibration. When you release the throttle when driving slower than 20 mph, your vehicle will decelerate sharply to attempt to stop and attempt to remain stopped until you press the accelerator. This is designed to enhance your control over extreme terrain. If you are on a sloped surface, your vehicle may not brake to a complete stop.
If your vehicle detects you are going downhill in slippery conditions, it will engage antilock brakes instead of automatic braking to avoid sliding.
When in Terrain Mode, your vehicle will be speed-limited to 50 mph. You will see a warning message in your Driver Information Center (DIC) when you reach this speed.
MY MODE
To select My Mode, turn the MODE dial to the icon that looks like the silhouette of a person.
My Mode lets you customize driving characteristics such as accelerator responsiveness, suspension tuning, steering feel and motor sound.
To customize My Mode, use the mode control dial to select the mode. Then, press the INFO icon on your infotainment screen to customize the mode. You can change My Mode settings while driving, but you will not be able to read about setting changes while the vehicle is in motion.
Changes to My Mode settings can take a few seconds to take effect.
Your vehicle will remain in My Mode across key cycles. If you turn the vehicle off in My Mode and turn it back on again, it will still be in My Mode.
